Questions on original ML rifle

Hopefully this is the right place to ask. I am building a copy of a known CW sharpshooter's rifle and I have two construction questions.

1st. The rifle has a 1.5" ATF barrel attached to the stock with a fitted bolster using a taper pin. What does that look like inside? I can find no drawings or photos of what the rear end of the breech bolster looks like or what the cut in the tang mount looks like. I am assuming, dangerous, that it is very much like a hooked breech. I have made those in the past from scratch.

2nd. There are hundreds of photos of how the rear of scope or tube sight is attached, but nothing showing the mechanics of it. I can see that there is a wheel turning a threaded rod through the rear of the tang for elevation. I do not know how the top of the elevation (wheel?) is attached to the rear scope mount.

If anyone has photos or drawings of how these two parts mate, it would be a great help.

Thank you.

DAve

Can’t really help you but it’s a neat looking rifle.

You might also try the American Longrifle build forum. Might be someone there that can help.

I appreciate the response. I am a longtime member of ALR but I thought possibly someone here might know the answer. ALR tends to be more flintlock and iron sight oriented.

Thanks,

That breech attachment is a lot like the under hammer rifles you see. I once owned one that was that way. The barrel breech plug was round and recessed into the front of the receiver and was held in place with a tapered pin of about 1/4 diameter. Can't remember the diameter of the plug but I am thinking 5/8 or 3/4 maybe? It has been a LONG time. Was a steady set up as it never shot loose. Hope this helps...

Lee Shaver builds long range muzzleloaders with a similar type of barrel attachment. You might give him a shout for details.
