Any VV N110 and N120 32-40 experience?

I am seeking powder for 32-40 and 28 Stevens.  I have located some VV N110 and N120 powder, however research only reveals brief mentions of using these powders in schuetzen  cartridges.

I would appreciate your thought/ experience with these powders.

I tried VV110 in a 33 cal based on a 357 Max case.

14gr gave about the same velocity as #9 & 300MP (1500 fps) but, SD & ES were twice as much as #9 and a little more than 300MP

I have the group listed as 3+" for the VV110 @ 200, were my #9 load was 1/2 that.

I had high hopes for it, when I bought it but, it didn't work out.

It might work better in a larger case?

I’ve been looking for VV N100 for a coons age.  I have a 7.62x39 cast bullet rifle (.308 bore) that I shoot 240gr subsonic cast bullet loads from that loves VV N110.  It’s a modernish bolt action (1910 Mexican Mauser).  I’m down to my last 1/2 pound, and need more.  In that application, it is the bee’s knees.  Anything else I’ve used it in, it sucks.

From the reloading manual N110 had a similar burn rate to IMR 4227 and N120 with IMR 4198. Both are single base (nitrocellulose only) powders. Similar to the IMR series the chemistry of all the N100 series are the same, the difference being only the powder size and inhibitor coating thickness that dictates the different burn rates. So it’s nice to know you can go up and down the N100 scale like with IMR.

That being said I’ve used N110 in my German Aydt in 8.15x46R using between 10 to 11 grains giving me a light but accurate load in ballpark of 1200 fps. Given similarity in case size for 8.15mm to 32-40 I’d suggest a similar starting load. I haven’t had chance yet to try N120 but I’ll probably start around 11 grains.

I have used N120 with pretty good results in 28-30. 13.5-14.5 grains for bullet weights 120-145 is generally good for 1600 fps breech seated. Low enough pressure that it’s safe for a Model 44 Stevens.
