Yeah, a bit slow to load and the fuel they're fed requires diligence when it comes to maintenance, but they are quite interesting and can be both fun to care for and shoot.

My favorite flint gun is a NOCK fowler.  The ignition is incredibly quick -- you can barely hear the flint click before the report.  kBANG!  Unlike the click...kaflooey...bang! of a musket. Unfortunately it is kinda cumbersome in the field, as you have to keep checking the priming, etc.

You can't beat a good flintlock.   All you need is powder and lead.   No worries about brass and primer shortages.   Easy to clean and never any leading.  And, if you know where to look,  there is free flint for bending over and picking it up.   Everytime I spend an afternoon with one of my flint rifles I come home wondering why I keep messing with breech loaders.

I've had to retire mine not because they dont shoot, but at 81 my eyes are not good enough.

If your rifle is not in 7.62 and you can't hit what you are aiming at with de-linked machinegun ammo you are a pretender.
