Stevens tang sight base screws?

I shoot an original Stevens 44 22LR with a tang that has been drilled & tapped, I believe by the factory.  I'd like to plug the holes since I use a scope.  Although it appears to be for a #6 screw, a standard 6-48 plug screw will not fit.  Possibly it's a 6-40 but I don't have a screw or tap to verify.  Was there a standard that Stevens used?

Factory drilled and tapped would be 5-40, the same as CPA rifles. If not factory, who knows?

I'm not a complete idiot, some of my parts are missing.

Thanks JerryH.  I'll see if I can find a couple to fit.

I have a selection of both steel and brass 5-40 screws, with heads on them. If you want to go to the trouble of making your own filler screws via them let me know.

gnoahhh,

Thank for the offer.  I'm sure I can find a couple with heads to modify in my collection of screws.

A reader of this thread suggested I post the following.

Just so no readers of your post are confused due to ignorance about plug screws, you might mention that the plug screws are slotted but headless.  Therefore, someone making plug screws from screws with heads will also need a appropriately narrow slotting file.

An ebay seller, Dominion Forge, who sells Stevens visible loader parts, has the plug screws listed on ebay currently for $6.25 for a pair plus shipping. The visible loader, favorite, and 44/44 1/2's all use the same tang plug screws.
