Yeah, original 44 1/2's were/are hell-for-stout, and wildcatters 80-90 years ago used a bunch of them to contain some fairly hairy cartridges (out of ignorance, naivete, and need), but remember those Stevens were indeed made from case hardened low carbon steel. When you start talking about sticking modern high intensity cartridges in them I get a little nervous. Personally I would take calledflyer's advice also.

I think maybe I will just sell the rifle. Seems the simpler thing to do and it wont cost me anything.  Thank for all the help.

What 32 cartridge is it now?

Pope 33-40 was designed to re rifle shot out 32-40’s, this option might actually increase or maintain the value of the rifle.
The  35-30-30 had the same purpose

The 32-35 can be bored to 32-40 unless it’s severely pitted.

32-20 and all the Rimfire can also be bored to 32-40.

Just some other options

CPA has a gas release hole bottom of the breech block. Case let’s go gas goes down .

Another issue for the 44 1/2 or CPA action with high pressure cartridges is extraction. I had both 30/40 Kraig and 25 Kraig in barrels for one of my CPA’s.  Could never reach typical bolt action velocity either one. Pressures go up, small extractor limited leverage compared to turning bolt, has real difficulty pulling the case out.

Best cartridges  44 1/2 or CPA are on the 38/55 case -32/40 - 30/30 - 25/35. Exception 45/70 case loaded to Black Powder Velocity works well too.

My original 44 1/2 has 219 Donaldson Wasp (from the 1940s), 6mm/30-30, 25-35, and 32-20 barrels. My CPA has 22LR, 32-40 and 38-50 Rem Hep barrels. The real beauty of those 2 actions is the interchangeable barrels.
