I met Mike “Duke” Venturino, also known at the time as Mike “Iron Duke” Venturino at the 1st Raton BPCR match I attended, and again at subsequent matches.  His late 1995 article in the Black Powder Cartridge News titled “Browning’s Model 1885 Silhouette Rifle” caught my attention as I was researching BPCRs at the time.  The article discussed his “thumbs up” evaluation of the 1st prototype rifles released for evaluation prior to full production in 1996.

It's the reason I settled on a Browning BPCR & eventually wrote the book on the rifles.

Rest in peace, Mike.

Wayne

I have been a big fan for years. I always read his articles in Rifle and Handloader first. He Will be missed, and his knowledge can't be replaced. He and I grew up near each other in WV and went to Marshall University but as far as I know never met even though he came into the gun shop where I started my career as a gunsmith. Rest in Peace.
