New to me Roller

I traded for this Rolling block last week. I knew nothing about it but I liked it and I had not had a roller for a while. The owner said he thought it was an officer's model but I have been told there was no such thing. Best I can find out is that it is possibly a Husqvarna Number 3 or a number 26. The only picture I can find of anything like it is the one Collector's Firearms has for sale. It is a 12.17 x 44 caliber with a decent bore, probably an 8. It has not been reamed to 50/70. The barrel is 95 cm long and it has three bands with a cleaning rod and military style sights. Any information would be appreciated.

The Swedes and Danes often did a semi sporter on old military rifles, and that's what yours looks like. Some got all new wood, some just a buttstock, while others kept the military wood and just reshaped it.
There's a lot of examples at Simpson's Ltd. as they seem to still be getting them on a regular basis.

I've looked at hundreds of pictures and have not seen another just like this one. Joe Salter had one similar but the barrel was shorter and it was an 8mm. I've seen quite a few pictures of half stock shotguns with a butt stock similar to this one.

No doubt there's maybe not another exactly like it. Since these were done by both gunsmiths and hobbyists they wont all be quite the same. If they were then I'd expect one company or gunsmith made them all.

It is not a Swedish Sporter.

The Swedish Sporters had the straight extractor replaced with a circular extractor.

The high screw indicates yours still has the straight extractor.

Also your hammer spur is not the same shape as the Swedish or Danish Rollers.

Here is a picture of s Swedish Sporter action:

there are literally thousands of Swedish military actions converted to Sporting rifles by gunsmiths, hobbyists, and others that never got a rotary extractor. Here's one I built just a couple years ago:

And another I built probably over a decade ago:

I buy the Swede actions that use the bar to retain pins, not the screws as they look nicer. And most I've purchased were Husqvarna, not other brands of military surplus.
I reshape hammers and block spurs to look Sporting, so I avoid any actions with that ugly spoon shaped block spur that sticks out 90 degrees.
As I mentioned Simpsons has lot of complete rifles, but I try to just buy actions as they're cheaper.

A couple of details to note here.  Look at the location of the firing pin retaining screw.  That is s signature of one style of the Swede sporting breech block. The military breech blocks have the retaining screw about center front to rear.  The slender shape of the thumb pieces on the block and hammer are again sporting configuration.  The butt stock with cheekpiece and checkered wrist are additional sporting features.   Husqvarna changed from the locking screws to a Remington button to retain the receiver pins about 1875.  I have seen one action dated 1874 with a button however most of them were on '75 and later mfg receivers.  We see some of these action built as shotguns. A few have straight cut rifling (paradox) and a very very few with twist rifling.

Simpson must have a wheel they spin to determine the asking price. There don't seem to be good reasons for them.

I like rolling block actions best of all and have had a number of Pedersoli guns in both .40-65 and .45-70.  I also had an original Remington roller that was unfortunately hacked up by its original owner back in the early part of the 20th century.
