Guess I avoided the point of the thread by accident.
My M44 in 25-20SS also likes 4227, but you might bump the charge just a little. IMR4198 and AA5744 will fill the case a little more and I've found that improves consistency.

I think Charlie has given good advice.  No firsthand experience here, but guys I have talked to with the fast twist/120 gr bullet say they have to load pretty hot - up around 1600 fps for best accuracy.  Seems that might be a bit much for the 44 action.

Regards,
Joe

By my calculations, yes, a 120 grain bullet at 1600 is pushing it a bit in a 44.  Not that anything will break, but it will likely "shoot loose" sooner than you'd like.

I have never looked for new pins but it sounds like a good idea, i will keep pressures in the black powder range. i always load light only need enough power to go through one sheet of paper. I must admit i do not like recoil and that is another reason i use light loads. i do appreciate all the replies i have received.

Pins alone will do nothing for a loose action.  What gets loose is the holes in the link, so the fix has to be to ream everything for oversize pins to restore the fit.  I drill all the holes out with a #11 drill, then REAM with a .1965 reamer. This will make all the holes a light drive fit for standard 5mm dowel pins from McMaster-Carr.  If you leave the link that way, the lever will be very stiff for the first 100+ rounds.  I tolerate that, but if it bothers you, ream JUST the link to .1970.

Has to be done on a mill or a sturdy drill press to keep everything square.  Let the parts "float" on the table or the tools will cut oversize.
