32 S&W Long in a #4 Remington

I see in Gunbroker that someone local to me is offering a #4 Remington rolling block altered fire 32S&W Long. It is a take down action. Looks to nicely done, finish wise, but I question the strength of a #4 .TD to handle the 32 Long.
Same seller also has a Stevens Favorite modified for the 32 S&W Long as well. Starting bids are a little over $600 and $500 respectively.
I have half a mind to try to contact the seller and see if he will agreee to me coming for a look-see. The other half of my mind says stay away.
What say you?

John

#4's in takedown shoot loose with 22 Long Rifle ammo. I certainly would not trust one in 32 S&W Long. I had a solid frame one I considered converting to 32 S&W Long but just lined it back to 22 and it was good to go.
Stevens Favorites are also too weak for the 32 S&W Long. If that is what you want go for a #2 Remington, Ballard or 44 Stevens.

Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

I wouldn't own or buy one in .32 S&W long. Unless it was dirt  cheap and I could rebarrel or reline back to .22RF. And those prices aren't cheap.

This is strictly a rimfire action. Reloading the .32 to minimum pressures would only be safe until you wore enough on the action to create excessive headspace. Plus this is a takedown action. Standard velocity .22 LR is the correct ammunition if you want the action to last.

I've owned several and each one would sometimes split the rim and spit with high-velocity ammunition. I love this little action, but only with standard velocity.

Thanks for the replies. I figured as much. I know those prices will buy me a nice # 4 in 22  rimfire... the saner route to take.

I bought this restored #4 .22LR engraved by Robert Evans with takedown case for $500. An original in very nice shape will go $500, but it better be really nice!

I'd be tickled to own that one. Even though it has been somewhat "altered".

Yes, Bob is a friend and he was always too backed up with work for me to get a gun engraved by him. One day at our collector gun show we had tables side by side, and he asked if I knew of a sort of junky 1911 he wanted for an engraving project? He said he'd trade the #4 for one. I told him I didn't have a junky 1911, but if he put a price on his #4 I'd buy it and he could go find a junk 1911. So he quoted a price I was tickled to buy it for.
It's a great shooter as he had the barrel relined during the restoration, so it shoots great too.
