That is 400 yds. to the gong I was shooting at, and it was 12 grs. of 2400, with a 170 gr. bullet.

Excellent !!
Did you use any type of filler or wad over the powder and was the 2400 the old hercules or the modern Alliant.
Lastly, was that with pistol or LR primers ?

I never use fillers or anything over powder with my smokeless loads. My rifle loads all use rifle primers. Pistol primers wont sit the same depth and depending on firing pin protrusion can cause misfires in some guns.

I have a modified Martini  Henry action with a heavy BRC .32 barrel . I have a 100 yard target with 4 shots in one ragged hole and the fifth shot about 1/2 inch out. Thirteen grains 2400 and a checked Lee 8mm bullet with LLA lube with some JPW added.  I have an old Weaver K10 scope on the rifle .
