Savage 210-220 info

Does anyone know if the Savage/Stevens 219 and 220 will interchange barrels. The 2 receivers and stocks look identical to me. I am curious if a centerfire rifle barrel would fit and function on a shotgun receiver. TIA.

The centerfire rifle barrels will not interchange between  models.

I believe you could buy a rifle shot gun barrel combo, when they were still in product but, like  j_c_johnson posted, I have both a 30/30 and a 22 Hornet and they won't interchange.

So, it would be a crap shoot.

In my experience, yess and no. There were two variations and parts are not interchangeable. Barrels may interchange on the same variation but not necessarily.

The 219 & 220 used the same receivers and barrels if they are the same version & vintage, barrels should interchange with some minor fitting possibly needed for the latch engagement.  The parts catalogs have both together and as mentioned above Savage marketed a number of rifle shotgun combination sets. I don't have any rifle barrels but have swapped shotgun barrels on the 220 & 220A's without a problem, they even fit on a Stevens 94 shotgun in .410. There was some variation in how much the latches engaged but all closed. I know of some collectors who have tried to acquire every caliber & gauge barrel to use on one receiver.

There is a good writeup here - (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)

The early models used a striker action, the late models used an internal hammer, and cocked differently.
