Winchester 1885 Hi-Wall 30-inch #4 profile .32-40

Hello Forum. This is an old guy, new to the Forum thing. Just acquired an unfinished Win 1885 Hi-Wall "project" that a friend never finished -- or even started. For starters, the barrel is an original #4 (heavy) 30-inch full octagon in .32-40 and in splendid condition -- but not my cuupa tea. I already removed it and am looking for a lighter-weight barrel; 26 - 30"; octagon or better yet, half-octagon; in a .32 caliber with brass that's easier to come by (like, .32 Win Spl) -- not .32-20. Is there anyone -- perhaps a business, not just on this forum -- who might trade mine for theirs? Just asking. Pictures are on the gunbroker website and Accurate Shooter forum under my same username: drrjc  Thanks much. ... Rob.

My first schuezen was a #1 in 32 Special.
it was accurate with the 319289 Lyman design.I ended up putting a 32-40 barrel on it but the 32 WS was fine. Probably not big match  competitive but more than capable of keeping up with my off hand skills at the time(or now). This was 30 years ago or more and IIRC roughly  inch groups were what I was getting at 100 yards.

An original #4 barrel in 32-40 in excellent shape should be quite easy to sell.  If you were in Canada I'd buy it from you right now Smiley

Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

What a shame to not keep such a neat #4 weight .32-40 barrel.

This would be a very desirable barrel if.......

The huge dovetail cut in the top, plus the other two dovetails, essentially ruin all collectability of the barrel.  You're down to a user barrel, and that would require it to be a proven excellent barrel for shooting, and a reduction in price.
your price is firmly in collector territory.

That's the reason your buyers on the 6mm board backed out, I expect, and the reason it hasn't sold on gunbroker.

I have an excellent .25-20 winchester barrel I'd trade for it, if it was in equal condition to my barrel.  Unfortunatley, it isn't.

I didn't look at the pictures.  Extra dovetail cuts definitely eliminate it as something you'd want to use to restore a rifle.
