	When shooting a 32-40, or any caliber, with smokeless, how often does everyone wipe the bore, if at all? Fixed loads, not breech seating…yet. Bob

	I clean my barrels after I'm done shooting for the day. I've never had, or seen, a reason to wipe the bore during a match. This is with cast lead bullets and smokeless powder, fixed or breech seated. A match could be as many as 80 shots. (I take lots of sighter shots. )

	I'm not a complete idiot, some of my parts are missing.

	I wipe a couple times, clean patch with a light spray of. Balistiol before putting my .22s 32/40 or 38/55 away. Give them another pass day or so later. If shooting a match within a few days I don’t wipe. Bit off topic but, It’s interesting to run one Balistol patch through a freshly fired bore. Then put the patch on the ground & light a corner. How it burns will tell if your load burns completely. Unburned powder granules will “fizz” completely burned powder residue won’t. Boats

	The .22 shooters would tell you not to do anything to upset "the bore condition" once the rifle is shooting well with a particular lot of ammo. I'd speculate that the protocol would carry over to the big centerfires.

	You are all confirming what I thought but I just wanted to be sure I wasn’t missing anything. Hadn’t thought about 22’s. The one I shoot often, does not do well after cleaning for a few rounds, but then settles in a does good. Thanks, Bob

	regarding .22s, my experience is do not clean except when changing ammo brands, the lube is different. 22s are fairly dirty so the chamber area is dirty after only a few rounds. i have learned to use a short (10") rod with a fixed handle and a mop to clean the chamber and about 4" up the bore. leave the rest of the bore with lube from the previous rounds.

	If I'm shooting one day, or multiple days during extended match, I only wipe the bore once I'm done and get back home.

	Again off topic but, center fires with jacked bullets don’t season with lube or change zero when scrubbed. Let the bore build up with copper it’s real hard to get out. Best keep them clean. Shotguns same way except it’s plastic build up from the wads. Really no universal bore cleaning best practice. It depends Boats

	don't let your 22 go a long time before cleaning when accuracy falls you have a lot of work to remove the baked on fouling ask me art

	Art I agree with you, never cleaning a .22 bad plan. I clean mine well every so often and always when forced to switch ammo brands. When doing so expect to shoot then some & to settle down before it counts. Boats

	With smokeless powder I NEVER wipe my bore. I shoot four shots into the bank so my barrel is consistently fouled before sighting in. I have no problem shooting at least 100 shots with no change in accuracy. That is if you have a good bullet lube. I use Alberta Schuetzen Lube. I clean my rifle after each shooting event. For my .22 I only clean it once a year and need to shoot 100 rounds before it will stabilize again and will only use Eley.

	Rule of thumb except with black. If load is shooting properly there is no need to clean . Bought a Ballard 22 , 30 years ago. Never clean. Consistently shoots 246 / 248. And a 250. Same for my 32-40, 38-55, 32 ms, 35 ms, except the 250!

	When I shot bullseye match pistol in .22RF I only cleaned at the end of the season. Then shot a box of ammo through the pistol at practice before the next season began.
