My 45-70 Rolling Block

I was told this was made by Dave Higginbotham BEFORE he started Lone Star Rifle Co. It has a Pedersoli action that John King did his magic on. 30" octagon #4 Green Mountain barrel. Nicely engraved action. Wish I knew who did it. Checkered pistol grip on very nice wood. Forearm steel cap tip and steel checkered buttplate with widow's peak. Serial # 0001. After some research, I found that another one of his rifles has a serial # 0001. It was once owned by someone on this forum. I will not name him but if he wants to chime in, he can. That rifle had a 34" half octagon barrel in 45-90. Then after reading the post started by John Boy ( 11 pages of interesting post's ) I see where GeorgeC had serial # LS001. Don't know what caliber. Then Mike Johnson had serial # LS001 in a 50-90. I'm thinking that when Dave started Lone Star, he started with serial # LS001 again. As i  understand it, Dave was working with Pedersoli as a consultant in Italy but he wanted them to make some changes to their Rolling Block to make it more like Remington's. They refused so he left and started his own company, Lone Star Rifle Co.  Dale.

That is indeed a most excellent custom rolling block.  And since it's now yours to enjoy and take care of, my heartiest congratulations!

That is a nice looking rifle!

Is the action marked: Pedersoli? Could it be a Uberti?

Schwartz, From what I have read, Dave used Pedersoli actions before he started Lone Star. How many rifles he made using Pedersoli actions, who knows. I don't think very many. Dale.

I owned a couple of Uberti's in the 1970's and 1980's. I don't recall how they were marked but I think there was a point in time where they quit calling them Uberti and switched to Pedersoli with no change in production. All of them (my Uberti's) had brass triggerguards and buttplates by the way.

Not sure but I also believe all of the Navy Arms rollers were from Uberti.

I doubt Dave Higginbotham would have used an Uberti action when he was working so closely with Pedersoli.

I guess my real question is: Is there a difference between a Uberti and a Pedersoli roller? When It comes to the M1874's I would never recommend a Pedersoli. I once had Navy Arms (Uberti) roller in 444 Marlin that had a soft hammer. After only a few rounds the hammer was significantly deformed.
