Britni Smith shot an elk (6x6) with a rifle re-bored by her Grandpa Ron Smith (RKS).

Very nice! Also that’s the sweetest looking elk country! Every time I get one it’s up and down not flat, I’m jealous! Congratulations smile says it all.

She only shot once so it must be a single shot.
She never mentioned the caliber to me.

It appears to be a Savage 99C, which had a removable magazine. Dates from pretty late in 99 history, it was an ill fated attempt to produce the 99 at a lower cost

So you are saying "I only shot it once rifle" is not a single shot rifle?

Now you sound like Westerner.

I could guess that the rebore may have been from 308 or 243
to the 358 win.  Good close up elk killer
Savage did chamber the 99 in 358W.

With that flat landscape I just cannot imagine that shot without a pretty powerful magnum and many hundreds of yards away.
How did you manage it.

Out in the farmland you hide between a hay bale and wait until they wander in to feed.
Farmers loose a lot of hay to elk who come and squat on their land.
The elk migrate down from the highlands as snow accumulates and near the end of the hunting season they may be down on farmland feeding on hay stacks.
