I have purchased a Hepburn project in 38-55 and when I get it going I will be shooting some 300 gr bullets from a mold I have. What would be some good loads for the 300 gr bullet?

depending on the bullet and seating depth, somewhere between 45 and 49 grains of good quality black powder. With a 310 gr postell bullet I used 47gr.  A 300 gr hoch tapered bullet did well with 45gr, but I only shot it at 300 m and I was able to keep all 10 shots on the pig.  I think that is good for a "just a guess" load.

50.0 grains Swiss FFFg with 310 grain bullet over .060" vegetable wad with newspaper inside over flash hole using a magnum primer.

17 gr 4227. 16 gr LilGun. Breech seated or fixed ammo.

18 gr. of IMR 4198 works very well in all my 38-55's.  Same charge for 250-330gr. slugs.  I use a 1-1/4" +/- square of cheap TP placed over the charge to keep the powder near the primer.  Not a "wad" but a "tuff".  The TP brought the SD down to 10 or below.  One will need to keep them stored "bullet up" so as not to defeat the TP.
Has been a very effective load on silhouettes out to 400 yards.

Reloader 7 works very well in the 38-55. close to the burn rate of 4198. 
AND Meters much better than 4198. 
Some good loads in the latest Lyman CBH, no 4.
I ran 28 gr Re7 under the Lyman 255 and 265 gr bullets for a good deer load in my M1893 and 336 CB rifles.

Is Reloader 7 any good for 300+gr loads in the 1250-1350 fps range?  I've been using IMR-4227 but have 1/2 can of Reloader 7 sitting around.
