Although he did some great work lets not make him a god. I had two of his rifles built on his action and they were nice. I am still shooting one of his in 50-70 built on a rem military action that is also nice but.... It has an odd dove-tailed piece of steel in the barrel under the forearm. I think he must have recycled a barrel into my rifle when he built it. I sent him the action and expected him to put a new barrel in it. FWIW: I received the rifle the day of his accident and from what I understand, the accident occurred with a Modern Sporting Rifle (AR15). He was pulling the loaded rifle out of his truck by the muzzle when it discharged.

FWIW, by your own admission, it sounds like you did not tell him what you wanted and did not tell him to put on a new barrel to your specifications. Just saying, if that’s the case, that’s on you then. And too bad he is not here to respond.  Sad

Interesting assumptions you have made here. I sent him an action expecting a recreation of Custer's rifle.

Please explain how you think a used barrel recycled into my rifle should have been expected. If you sent an action to ANY builder today would you expect to get a recycled barrel back?

When you take your car to the shop for tires do you expect the shop to put on used tires?

If your rifle is not in 7.62 and you can't hit what you are aiming at with de-linked machinegun ammo you are a pretender.

The early Sporting Rifle (set trigger) is chambered for the
Little known Remington 45-45-290.

The #5 Sporter (bottom rifle) is in 30/40 krag.

Really stayed true to an early CF period cartridge, NICE!!!
How hard was it to find a chamber and finish reamer?
Also what caliber is the top rifle with the heavy barrel, pistol grip, and shotgun butt plate.
Which rifle was your first Lone Star and the last?

Cannot say as to where Dave acquired the reamer.
I load this one using CH-4D 45/50 Peabody dies, then fire form. The 45-45 neck is quite short.
The top rifle (pistol grip)is in 45/70.
My first Lone Star was a pistol grip 50/70.
The pistol grip 45/70 was my last acquisition.

Looks identical to the .45-50 Peabody (AKA .45 Sporting)
Is the head and rim diameter the same as .43 Spanish?

John, it is close to the 45/50 Peabody but with a shorter neck.
I will try to get some measurements on the case.
