Scope block spacing on a Shiloh Sharps?

I have Shiloh Sharps 40-65 with a 30" half round bbl.  It has scope blocks already installed at 16.775" between centers.
The scope I want to mount is a Lyman Superspot 20X which needs the front block moved back toward the receiver.
The farthest I have shot is only 300 yds, with hopes to shoot at 600 yds some day.
My question is... which spacing would be the best for me on this rifle,  7.2" or 10.3"
Thanks

Almost every old rifle I own has the shorter 7.2" spacing done on them. Never saw a reason to go to 10.3", but if you're shooting 300 yds. or less it will give finer adjustments.

When using external adjust scopes the wider the scope spacing the finer your single adjustment will be.

Elevation Required for 1 Minute of Angle (inches):

7"   Block Spacing  0.0020
10" Block Spacing  0.0023
17" Block Spacing  0.0026

Internal adjust scopes use the modern scope spacing of 7.2 inches and their 1/4 MOA or 1/8 MOA adjustments are achieved at that scope block spacing.

Most of the external adjust scopes used a minimum spacing of 10.3 inches however you can use 7.2 block spacing with them resulting in coarser adjustments.

Schuetzendave and marlinguy thanks for your interest in my dilemma.
Even though I will probably never shoot at 1000 yd targets I now understand scope placement implications.

1000 yd. shooting will require special mounts or bases to get most scopes to within that range, regardless of spacing. And then once the scope can adjust at that range it wont be able to lower enough to use at short ranges without changing mount height.

Oldbee, you lose elevation adjustment the wider the distance between scope blocks.  If you look at Schuetzendave's little chart carefully, you will notice that you lose almost 30% if you use the wide spacing,  Here is a link to something I did in the past and it worked quite well.

I have since abandoned this and have gone to the tall DZ Arms mounts.  Not because the earlier system didn't work but because it was too hard to read the lines on the Unertl scale in bright sunlight.  DZ Arms alters the spacing, also, white on black is easier for me to read.

Here's the info from DZ Arms website on elevation ranges for spacing:
