Stevens 1894 Favorite operation question

Hi,
I have a Stevens 1894 Favorite.  It MAY be a No. 17, but I am not absolutely sure on that.  I was playing around with it the other day.  It seemed like if I put the hammer on half cock, I could not put the hammer back down by pulling the trigger as I try lowering the hammer.  I had to cock it all the way, then lower the hammer fully from there.  Is that normal operation for a Favorite of this time period, or have I uncovered a fault with my specific rifle?

Thanks,

Danny  Shocked

Normal.  The half-cock notch is very deep.    Does operating the lever put the hammer to half-cock?

Yes, that is exactly how it operates after I have fully lowered the hammer.
