I've had this blank sitting round the shop for years. Just a delightful blank with great colors and figure. Buddy Tom wanted a blank for his Winchester project so he drives over to look at wood. We're BSn about this and that and spinnin knobs on machines in the shop. Then I ask when he's going to go through some wood for a blank. Said he already found one and I said but you didn't hardly even look. He says I want this one. Told him I didn't want to sell that one so lets go through and look. Nope, I want this one. Dang! Well, he got it. All I got now is pictures.

Well Buddy Tom is no fool and good great taste. I always have about 3 1/2 to 4 K feet of good timber on hand in my shop. Teak, Honduras and Cuban mahogany, nice cherry, white oak, delicious Southern hard pine and Cypress and some other tropicals but I never let friends cherry pick my stash. You should have hidden that piece it’s pretty special.

Tough to find a forend to match that. Maybe that is the piece you had hidden? Nice to have a good enough friend that you could let that one go to.

Looks to me like California Claro walnut.
A lot of high grade Browning shotguns had wood like that in the sixties.
Beautiful colors.
