it is with the deepest sadness that i have to announce the passing of my long time friend and mentor Joe Ruth. his knowledge and ability to repair and restore these old guns we love will not be easy to replace.his lifelong study of popes was not equaled. i will miss his friendship and conversations, and many nights we would have a drink together 2000 miles apart on the phone.    tony<><

Sad news. I did not know Joe well but we had some dealings over the years and I always found him to be fair, an excellent craftsman and a gentleman. He will be missed indeed.
Rest in peace Joe  Cry

There are indeed two Americas. Simply put, it is not the haves and have nots. The two Americans are in reality divided into those who do and those who don't.

A great loss to the Single Shot community. Never met but talked on the phone and I found him to be very knowledgeable and willing to share advice on how to do things when I had a problem.
Cheers,

A gentleman! He made a bullet starter for me — beautiful workmanship — and was a pleasure to speak on the phone with and to learn from.

I can echo Mr. Wrights comments about Mr. Ruth word for word, but I will also add that I will be ever so sorry that I put off actually meeting him.

I had seen examples of Joe's work. He was an artist with metal and wood ... a talented gunmaker.

I am also saddened by this.  For me, Joe was one of the main sources in my quest for knowledge about all things Farrow.

Joe had restarted, revamped and revitalized the Florida Schuetzen Society.  His enthusiasm and his leadership will be missed by the Association.   We are truly diminished by his passing.

My main contact with Joe was a phone call from him out of the blue, asking me some esoteric question.  It ended up being about a half hour call discussing all sorts of things including the making of a near perfect copy of Pope’s bullet lube pump he had done many years before.  He was packing to take some collectible cartridges to a show for sale and picked out an original Ballard 40-90 round for me to have with my #5 Pacific.  A super knowledgeable but still down to earth kind of guy.  RIP, Joe.  You will be missed.

Sad news.  It seems we are losing too many of our friends lately.

Very sorry to hear this sad news. Joe did some work for me on a couple of rifles. His work was meticulous, and I enjoyed talking with him, he will be missed, RIP.
