Sad News, Jim Luke posted on his facebook page that Chuck Blender passed away. I enjoyed shooting with Chuck and have missed seeing and shooting with him.

Alas -- many happy hours on the range with both Chuck and Jim over the past (can it have been} 40 years? Remember Chuck's home-made barrel weights, constructed by screwing selected pipe nipples onto threads on the barrels? And similar adjustments made to the driver's seat in his van, pieces of lumber screwed to the armrests, etc.? One of a kind, a great guy and great shot.

So sorry to hear.
I shot a few times with Chuck at Raton (1996 to 2014).
He was one of the most steady offhand shooters I have seen.
We will miss another old timer.

Sorry to see this, I shot with Chuck for many years at muzzle loading shoots then later in ASSRA Shoots at Etna Green. My understanding was that Chuck had returned to Muzzle Loader competition. I always enjoyed visiting with him.

A very dear friend, I will miss him. I knew he was in bad condition from a fall at his home. A sad day for me. Ledball

A genuine nice guy always willing to help a new offhand shooter. Never gave unsolicited advice, ask him he would explain clear and concise. Best lesson watch his form shooting.
Very sorry to hear his passing

I will always cherish the memories of shooting at Charlie Dell's with Chuck and Leadball. I have many other happy memories of Chuck but I will always remember him as the best shot with the ugliest rifle ever.

Boats, Chuck asked me if I minded if he gave me advice. So maybe solicited after asking??
He was always willing and maybe even eager to help. He spent some time talking with my then 12 year old son about off hand shooting. Somewhere I have a picture of Chuck and my son pulling and inspecting targets together at one of Chris’s matches. (Thurmont).
His wood and putty stocks were a thing to behold!

I met and talked with Chuck last time I was at Etna Green. Must have been about 2005-6. Very nice man.
Sad to hear of his passing. Don't think I ever saw one of his tricked up rifles. Heard about them though.

I will always remember Chuck (screen name, “lightlylubed”) as the offhand shooter to beat at whatever match he shot. A fierce competitor, but a good guy with a fun sense of humor off the line. Oh yeah, and the guy with the ugly rifle!
Chuck was a devoted OH shooter and didn’t shoot much bench rest. He always seemed to throw at least one bad shot on a bench target. I believe it was at Thurmont where they introduced a tongue-in-cheek Chuck Blender Match where you got to throw away one bad shot. He was entertained.
RIP, my old friend. You will be missed.

Saddens me, he taught me more about offhand shooting that anyone else I've known. Fond memories of him, Paul and the gang shooting at Chinquapin. It was the time of our lives.

Met Chuck in the early 70's at local muzzleloading club that I joined. A fierce competitor but the first to congratulate somebody that shot a good score that beat him. A fine gentleman to shoot against. Yes even then famous for his modified rifles. Have not seen him in years but read with interest his exploits in the shooting sports. A nice guy, he will be missed. RIP

First met Chuck at Tom Pikes range in 1966 . I bought a muzzle loader from Tom and he said I should come down to the match that Sunday . I didn't know I would be shooting against some of the best in the country . Chuck was one of them and I ended up shooting at many matches with him over the years .Always enjoyed seeing him . If anyone wonders who got him interested in single shot rifle matches I'll have to take the blame . I was talking to him at a shilouette match and told him I had done pretty well at the Coors matches at Tusco including winning the Central States Match .His comment was I can beat you .It wasn't said as a brag or put down ,just a statement of fact . I knew Chuck well enough to know that and took no offense . The next summer he showed up at the Coors match with his usual collection of metal , wood , and Bondo and not only beat me but everyone else there also . I will miss seeing him at the range . A truly nice guy .
