Hunting A 25-35 High Wall

I have always liked hunting with old rifles in traditional calibers. I grew up hunting with my dad’s SRC in 25-35. When I saw this high wall in 25-35 I bought it for nostalgic reasons.

It is a great shooting, yet scarce configuration with double set triggers, takedown, sling eyes, checkered, shotgun butt…

That is an awfully nice buck and rifle. The 25-35 is an underappreciated caliber in my opinion. If you are a true hunter it will get the job done for you. Mine has taken deer, javalina and coyotes without any problem.

I shot a 7 foot grizzly with my dad’s 25-35. One shot, ded…

Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

Never hunted with a .25-35, but I have taken mule deer with my 1893 Marlin takedown in .25-36 Marlin, which is basically nearly identical to the .25-35 Win.
I think a number of people underestimate the .25-35/.25-36 for deer, but handloaded in a strong rifle it is a great deer cartridge.

I’ve got a martini cadet in 25-35, take one deer, numerous goats, one of the idiot neighbours sheep( more of an euthanasia situation) and a cat, it’s a much underrated calibre

Wow Sharpnel, that's a really great HW that makes my old rifle look a bit rough. A very nice buck too. Thanks for posting. I'd be interested to hear what projectile you are using in the .25/35 for hunting. I started out using the standard 117 gr RN Hornady with good results (see pic) but following suggestions from a few of the boys here I moved to a 100 gr spitzer. Even with a rough bore the accuracy improved and I've taken two Fallow deer at about 80 yds with one shot kills. Thankfully I don't have to contend with snow like that here in Oz! I like the .25/35 a lot.  Smiley

Nice High Wall. I never had any trouble with a 25/35 on deer.
