load of BP in .45 Colt for Ballard

Have a Ballard rifle in .45 Colt. Anyone load BP for this cartridge/rifle action? My understanding is the Ballard action is prone to cracking under larger loads so I'm looking for plinking/target loading data. I've heard anywhere from 18 -22 Gr. 1.5F to 3F.
Thanks for any help

If it is a Civil War era Ballard, yes, you do need to keep the loads light as the cast frame walls are thin and some are know to have cracked that have been chambered in 45 Colt. If it's a Marlin Ballard I wouldn't worry with black powder loads.

It is a Civil war Kentucky Ballard made by Ball & Williams (Merwin and Bray AGTS). So yes low power loads to shoot to 100 yds.

I shoot a .44 cal Ball & Williams Ballard.  But .45 Colt is a heavier bullet and larger charge.  It would be prudent to download it a bit and use a filler to take up the excess space.  Here's a video I made about mine:
