Came across this photo of a much younger me north of Buffalo Wyoming in 84. The rifle is a #1v 25-06, a gift from my wife in 82. 117gr Hornaday, 56 gr of 4831sc, Federal LRBR.

Bet that photo brings back great memories! I picked up a #1v in 25-06 as just a barreled action some years ago. Very accurate rifle. I had some nice stocks that I put on it and also grafted a Ballard ball & spur lever on it.

The rifle resides in the back of the gun safe, I haven’t used it in several years. I have never fired a factory round thru it, all hand loads.  I shoot mostly paper now days with Schuetzen rifles.

Nice ‘speed goat’ Neat to see old memories unfold. I hunted Wyoming and Colorado inthe sixties and seventies mainly with a flintlock or revolver. Great days.

Sometime around 1991 or so my hunting partner invited one of his friends to hunt deer with us on a trip to Idaho.  This gentleman used a Ruger #1 Varminter in 25-06 and he ruined me for life.  I immediately found a Browning B-78 in 25-06 and never looked back.  After all these years, we still hunt together but that was the only time he used a singleshot rifle while my old partner fell in love with my B-78 and had me find him one in 25-06 as well.  The 25-06 has served me well but my go to rifle the last few years is my 30/40 Improved Borchardt or one of my Rolling Blocks that have been rebarreled.  Tom
