Drawings for a Jefferies-Farquharson Single shot
Apr 7th, 2023 at 5:54pm
Print Post
I have bought a raw copy of a Jefferies -Farquharson single-shot rifle. Unfortunately, some of the parts are missing and will have to be fabricated from scratch UNLESS someone has them (not likely).

Also missing a couple of other parts and they also will have to be made from scratch.

I am looking for prints of the various assorted parts that make up the action. including the dimensions of the parts and the action itself.

Any help/suggestions available?

Wal Winfer's book might be a good place to start.

I am not aware of any prints. I sent you a PM with a picture of my castings to see if it’s the same and I may have the parts you need. The Kirkton book is the best source for information on the Jeffrey’s

Rodney,
Do you have the firing pin or accurate drawing of the pin including the slot for the retractor.

Not a Jefferies, but a Gibbs.

This is a Jefferies receiver.

A breech block.

A lever.

There was a good deal of variation in these actions. Your project will require some design work!

Yes, the pictured action is a late style Gibbs firing pin design.

The early Gibbs and the Jeffery rifles used a slotted pin and the bump on the link to extract the pin from the primer pocket. The dwell time is key in keeping things moving smoothly. The hammer is lifted off the pin and the bump on the link pulls the pin out of the primer pocket before the block moves.

I hope that is of some help.

I finished a Gibbs recently. I changed it to the spring retracted pin design after some frustration with the mechanical pin retraction.
