To copy a taper

(You need to Login or Register to view media files and links) I made these parts to set my lathe compound to copy a taper. (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)Here they are attached to my lathe compound. The top of the attachment is on the height of the lathe center line.
(You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)Placed against a taper that I want to copy with the compound and locked down. I have used this system for cutting chambers with a boreing bar.

How did you do it before?

I do not remember how I did it before. That was long ago! I am sure it involved a dial indicator and a lot of dinking!

That's a neat simple solution over dialing in with a indicator!

I have usually had to make a pattern to follow for setting the taper; real easy! I cut two diameters perhaps an inch apart in a piece of aluminum scrap. The size of the diameters do not matter. The difference between them, and the distance between them does! It takes less time to do this than it takes to tell about it!
