Here's an 1884 I recently sold.  IT's in unfired perfect condition since it left the factory.  It came out of Springfield's shipping box covered on cosmoline.  Not a ding or mark of any kind on the word or metal.  A gorgeous rifle.

I have a couple that are nice, but certainly not straight out of the cosmoline! A lucky buyer who should enjoy owning it.

Back in 1958, when I was a senior in high school, I walked into a gunshop and saw a Springfield Armory shipping crate with 10 brand-new .50/70 trapdoors in it.  Selling price was $35 each, or probably $350 for the whole crate.

I already had a .50/70 Navy roller and "knew" that I couldn't buy ammo, so I let one of those trapdoors slip away.
