Lead stearate is a salt of stearic acid and is sometimes referred to as the ‘lead soap’ of stearic acid.
It is a stabilizer and is used as a thickener or hardener.
It occurs in the form as a powdery white solid with a slight fatty odor.
It has a very niche use in the plastics, paint and varnish industry and has to be handled carefully because it is toxic by inhalation and ingestion.
You are supposed to wear full protective clothing to handle this stuff.

Hopefully the wind does not blow the BP smoke containing lube particles back at you or that you properly wash your hands after making or handling the lube or cleaning your rifle.

The hard Ivory soap precipitates out if you melt this lube again such as pan lubing.

There are hard and soft emulsifiers and you need a soft emulsifier if you wish to melt again to pan lube.

Sounds like some serious stuff to handle. I think I would want to stay clear of it.

RAM-
I’ve had good results with the following lube recipe in my BPCR.

50% beeswax (melted  liquid volume)
40% anhydrous lanolin (melted liquid volume)
10% canola oil (liquid volume)

The lanolin can be bought online or at a health food store.
I got it at ‘The Grain Bin’ in Alexandria. You’re not far from there.

Good luck.

I ‘borrowed’ some of the recipes here to make my go to home brew.  It pan lubed better than anything else I have tried especially in releasing from the 8” cake pans I use when it is at just the right temperature for pushing the bullets out.  The ingredients are listed below, all by volume.

3 parts beeswax
1 part anhydrous lanolin
1 part white mink oil (it is actually a paste)
1/2 part Lubegard Universal assembly lube (this replaced their valve and assembly lube which was red)

I don’t shoot in extreme temperatures, but it held up fine during a 104 degree day at Spokane a few years back.

Over the years I've bought and made lubes. I buy lube and shoot it for a while and then get squirrely and decide to make my own. I've tried all types of lube, but the one I keep coming back to Javalina Schuetzen Lube the old Smilies formula. I add a tablespoon of lanolin oil to mine.

It's been years since I contacted them, but you might try
Ralph & Verna Schneider (715) 287-4224.  Nice list of Cast bullet lubricants.

6.4% (by weight) of Alberta Schuetzen Lube is lanolin.

bpjack-

Is the mink oil paste the same stuff Track of the Wolf sells as patch lube for muzzleloaders?

(You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)

It’s very good patch lube so I would think adding a bit to a BPCR lube would be a good thing as well as the Lubegard. I’m going to give it a try. Thanks.
