My thought about the original description is that something suspicious was going on.

Maybe the seller or auction house was deliberately describing the rifle's condition in part as a CYA because of the never-installed safety?

Or maybe because there was a "behind the scenes" agreement to sell it at a pre-arranged price, to the original consigner's detriment?  Has that ever happened in the gun business?  Perhaps one where the estate executor was less than competent?

Did it sell in October 2021 for $6,000?  And then in November 2022 for $3,800?  Can anyone dig deeper?  There's a good Journal article here.

The safety was there in the picture on the American Rifleman cover shown in the GB listing.

Sold  2913.00. What a deal someone got.

I would tend to agree, but apparently, the market for "famous", wonderful, professionally built single shots on the Ruger action by widely known artists is not what it once was.

I was sorely tempted to bid on it, but it would have been more expensive given the ensuing divorce. Still, it would have spurred me to finally sell a lot of my other stuff that I've been putting off.

Indeed! Sad that such an historical, beautiful rifle sold so cheaply. But a deal for whoever got it!

FYI, Jim Feren won the Miller at Coors.  It is a 22lr, with 90%+ coverage of RL Ronnie engraving.  I bought it some time back.  I sold it to the gentleman who posted here that he was looking for a Miller 22.  He owns a couple Miller centerfire rifles, and wanted a 22 for the rimfire matches at Etna Green.

It shoots as well as it looks.

I am a little confused regarding this prize rifle. It has been described as a prize rifle won by Grant Gruver or Jim Feren, and chambered in 32-40, and 22 long rifle. Considering it included two moulds, a Schoyen style de and re-capper etc, seems doubtful it would be a 22 rimfire. Can anyone clarify? Regardless, Roger Ronnie's engraving alone is worth the price realized. Add Ron Long's exquisite work, and Neal's Flawless checkering, and you have one very fine rifle. It is surprising that it was mishandled as it was. Even the lid on the case was mismatched and obviously not the correct one.

I think the confusion is ISS is talking about a Miller in .22LR that Feren won, which isn't the Ruger that we were discussing.
