A two year Lurker

I am presently working on a Sharps Borchardt. I believe it is a hunting model in 40-50SS . I loaded some smokeless powder with Hawk bullets and missed a nice buck at 100 yds with open sights . Decided my eyes need a scope and since the hunting model is fairly rare I sent everything to BRC in NM and had them make a new barrel to the same contours as the original and put scope mounts on it . Got a Winchester scope from Montana Vintage Sights . Now I just need to load some cartridges. Would like to get some 40-50 dies but I haven’t posted enough qualify on the for sale site . I’ll be adding to this post and once I figure out pictures , I’ll post some.

Welcome aboard.  I believe you can post want-to-buy ads but need the posts and time to post for-sale ads.

In any case, a couple posts of pictures of your Borchardt would certainly boost your post count (hint, hint).

NPT1951,
I saw your rifle while visiting at BRC, it's a real beauty and quite. I am in the process of building a Borchardt with the same barrel contour and stock style.

If you can't find a set of .40-50SS dies you can buy new from C&H4D for fairly reasonable price. Since it's a single shot rifle you really don't need a full 3 piece die set as you can fire form brass from .303 British, or .30-40 Krag, and then trim to length. Just need to seat bullets after that, so you can get by with a seating die, and use an M die to slightly bell case mouths to allow seating bullets. This is what I do for my guns in .40-50SS and it works great.

There are some new 303 cases listed in the FS Section you can form until you find dies.

Here is the pistol grip . It is the style used on the early Borchardts and since the hunter was the cheapest model i doubt there are very many with pistol grips

Thanks for all of your replies and advice. I have 30-40 brass from buffalo arms just need to load it . I do have 40-70 SS dies, 38-40 WCF dies and an original hand held sizing die for a 40-50 SS so i really just need to get motivated.

Even better looking in the last set of photos! I rarely see Sporting Borchardts and they always appeal to me! You'll love the .40-50SS for sure!
