Browning BPCR vs Original 1885 HW breach seater? (Read 726 times)

	I make sesters for original 1885 High Walls and now have a request for one to fit a Browning 45-70. I do not have access to one to see if mine would fit. How close are the breech block mortices on the two? Is the hammer spur clearance the same? Thanks Jack

	I have one of yours in 38-55 at works in my original highwall but it drags in my Mirouku 38-55 and won't quite work. If I remember correctly it drags "deflector "that let's you change the ejection of the case. I'm not sure if the blockpowder cartridge rifles have this. I can send you pictures later on when I get home to show you.

	Jack...The 45-70 were closer to originals.The 38-55 I had had A different extractor/ejector that I did not like...bought it for a hunting rifle but sold it for that reason. Might not help much...but now you know the story...smile

	my 45-70 and 38-55 had the same extractor and case deflector. Both were traditional hunters(with upper tangs) I'm thinking that the BPCR rifles were the ones that were different and didn't have the deflector.

	Yes, the Browning BPCR has no deflector.

	the two traditional hunters have 6 o'clock extractor/ejector and that's what the breech seater is hanging up on I just verified. I sold my two BPCR rifles and don't remember if the extractor was about 9 o'clock like originals though.

The BPCR models have extractors at 6:00 o'clock as have all the Browning 1885, but as noted above there are no deflectors. The BPCRs don't have an ejector system under the forearm therefore the ejector is only an extractor in the BPCRs. The cases are only extracted about an inch or so to allow removal with thumb & finger. Wayne
