Hammer Spring Tnsion

Good morning - relatively new to single shot rifles. I possess just enough information to be considered dangerous.  Just received a brand new CPA rifle and love it.  During my first outing I experienced 3/50 light hits requiring a second pull of the trigger.  Gail recommended increasing the hammer spring tension, which I did.
My questions are:
Does increasing tension on the hammer spring increase the weight of the trigger pull?
Would light strikes on rimfire ammunition effect ignition and consequently accuracy?
I’d appreciate your comments. Thanks, Tom

The impact of the firing pin definitely affects accuracy. I’ve seen rifles cut their group sizes by a large number with an increase in spring tension. Ideally the hammer strike is such to keep the firing pin embedded in the cartridge and not bounce.

The trigger pull can be increased proportionally as well but that depends a lot on the design and fit up of the mechanism in itself. Still best to have a strong primer strike, irregardless.

Thank you Premod.  I thought that a strong hammer strike would have an effect on accuracy, but wanted to obtain the opinion of someone with more experience.  Tom

DrJ, If increasing the hammer tension doesn't solve it I would also check 2 things.

1.  one of my CPA's had a loose screw on the hammer spring.  This caused erratic ignition.  Super easy to fix, remove the buttstock and tighten the screw.  I could tell something was wrong because cocking the hammer made a strange sound when compared to my other CPA.

2. On my second CPA it would not fire .22's consistently but the centerfire breech block with the .32-40 barrel worked perfectly!  Gail diagnosed it over the phone and suspected that the hammer spring was rubbing on the wood when under tension.  She was 100% correct and after fixing it the rifle works perfectly and is superbly accurate.

Hammer spring pressure as I believe John Merz can also attest too is just as important as adjusting one's load. I know you are probably talking about a CPA  rimfire rifle but to soft or to hard can make all the difference in the world.
