Leading problem solved?

I loaded some fixed 45-70 BP rounds up in March. Shot them in June and they leaded pretty badly in front of the chamber. Pretty sure my lube has dried out. Went out to shoot the same loads in July,on a dry 80 degree day. I made 2 changes. Prior to loading I lightly lubed the bullet nose. I also added neatsfoot oil to the water I used to clean between shots. No leading. Don't know which one helped the most, but will continue with both. Any one else using neatsfoot oil?

Add a tablespoon of lanolin per pound to your lube and it won't dry out.

How do you get neatsfoot oil to mix with water?

Look for anhydrous lanolin.  Very sticky stuff. I have used it in my lube mix for years.  It also work well for a case sizing lube.

The neatsfoot oil did not really dissolve in the water. More like a suspension. I just swirl my swab around in it, and wipe the bore. I use a 410 shot gun bore swab, with a .45 Squeegee from Buffalo Arms, and push it through with a dry patch. Seamed to work.

I agree with 40_Rod and bpjack. I use the anhydrous lanolin along with Emmerts lube as to keep it from drying out.

The last lanolin I bought was from a pharmacist friend at a
a local pharmacy. It cost me $20.80/in a pound jar. It was
marketed by Paddock Laboratories.Hope this helps.

Years ago, at the suggestion of a friend, used Alberto VO5 as a case lubricant. Until spray lubes came about it was all I used, and never a problem. Never gave it a thought for use in a bullet lube concoction, but might.
