Success at last!

Having barreled up a Miroku 1885 with a Krieger 25 caliber barrel and chambering it in 25-35 Ackley Improved I was loosing 60% of my 25-35 cases when fireforming. I was given suggestions by a forum member on forming cases but my cases still split, possibly the era of the cases had something to do with it. Checking on the availability of forming dies, the long delivery and high cost I figured I would try another approach. Having a good supply of new 30-30 cases and a selection of loading dies available, this was my solution. Lube cases and run them into a 7mm-08 sizer, then into a 6.5 Creedmoor. Anneal the formed case and then into the 25-35 Ackley Improved die. Check the fit in the chamber and the prime and charge the case. The forum member recommended using 29 grains of 4064 and a 100 grain bullet seated out to engage the rifling. Went to the range and fired 40 rounds, perfectly formed cases with 100% success, no split cases. Even better I am getting sub 1/2" groups at 100 yards when fire forming. Very pleased with the outcome.

Some of the best targets I have ever shot were while fireforming. Not sure why but there is some magic hiding in there somewhere.
