FBW, rifle. ?

Hi all.
A friend here in Oz has a nice 38/55 FBW action, with a good quality barrel. The barrel has no marking other than FWB. Did they make their own barrels ? or what is it likely to be. ??
Thanx. DR.

Don't believe they made any barrels but if it is a Model J action we bought the last of them a few years back for $400.00.
There were completely finished and blued and in my own opinion one of thee very best actions ever made.

FBW never made any rifles.  They made and sold a basic action, for others to make into rifles.  Although the actions were sold fully finished and blued, they were very basic; the first thing I do when I make a rifle on one is shape and polish the action and parts, and then have it reblued.  I take off the sharp corners on the hammer and smooth out and flatten the receiver faces.  And, uniform the lever dimensions, as well as rounding the sharp corners.  This all makes the rifle a lot more pleasant to use.  It does not improve it's accuracy or dependability, just makes it more presentable and in the case of the sharp corner reworking, more usable.

The finished rifle quality and appearance has everything to do with what barrel and stock the individual building it chose to use, as well as their skill level and what they chose to do to complete the rifle.

None of this is a criticism of the FBW.  It is an excellent action, and was a bargain for what it was sold for.  The Fixx brothers set out to create a series of quality, competitive, and affordable single shots, and they achieved that remarkably well.  They underpriced them enough that it never became a financially successful, sustaining business, but they persisted and provided the actions as a service to the users, for which I am grateful.
