Scope Refurb?

Print Post
Good Morning,
I hope today finds you well! I recently pick up a Lyman Super Target Spot that needs a little TLC. I would like a complete refurb, reblue, etc....
Has anyone had work like this done by IronSite Inc? Would you care to share your experience and perhaps post a pic?
Thank You,
Scott

Several years ago Ironsight of Tulsa, Ok cleaned and replaced the reticle in a Litchert scope.  It was in perfect working condition when I got it back.  My only concern would be the wait time, which for me was a full year.  Oldwyo

They have done several for me, good as anyone else. I have had faster turnaround times by sending three or four at once. I guess it depends upon their workload.

Bob Seipp recently posted the following on the Unertl scope forum.
================================

"I have been doing repairs on the old Target scopes for almost 25 years, removing broken screws as well as lens separation, crosshairs, mount repair and parts replacement. So, email me directly and we can go from there and get your scope fixed properly. I look forward to hearing from you."

Have you talked to Joe Ruth? He's listed in General - Important Topicx, on this forum. He does excellent scope repair/refurb but not sure if the does blueing. He's did a first rate job on a Unertl repair for me several years ago.

There are indeed two Americas. Simply put, it is not the haves and have nots. The two Americans are in reality divided into those who do and those who don't.

Scott,

Calling it a forum may be a misnomer, but other than a forum I don't know what you'd call it?  It's one of the over 37,000 groups in Groups.IO which was the old Yahoo Groups renamed/moved.  Here's the link: (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)

BTW, it's worth checking out some of the other groups by doing a search.  In addition to the Unertl groups there's a gunsmithing group, a handloading group, a cast bullet group & many others.

I will also vote on having Bob work on your scope. He is a very nice guy and good to deal with. I have met him personally and had him do a bit of work for me, and I have done some work for him as well. When he needs scope caps made I am the one that makes them for him and I have made some other scope parts for him over the years. My guess is his turn around time would be a lot less than a  year.

Not always the case but generally the good ones you have to wait for. I refuse to bad mouth any of these shops but can tell you I’ve had two custom reticles fall apart and one scope sent back to me that wasn’t even mine. I personally don’t care if the mechanic is a nice guy or not I want quality.

burntwater, don't blame you one little bit for that. This day and age we all want the best for our bucks. I do know that mistakes can happen but with something as expensive as these old scopes are getting I think one has a right to expect a little effort to get things right and get the right scope back to the right owner.  I do hope you were compensated for sending the scope back and you did get yours back.

Adding my two cents... I've been looking for replacement screws for my Lyman JTS for two years, hitting hardware stores (not exactly right) and different refurbishers (not selling parts) - turning up empty handed.  Finally stumbled upon Bob Seipp.  Got exactly the recoil and reticle-ring screws I needed, promptly and reasonably priced.  Also enjoyed a nice BS session.  Smiley

Did Ironsight tell you they’d reblue your scope. I’ve known several really good bluing shops over the years and none would touch a scope.
