There a few members in the DSA club that have Bergs but don’t know that they follow here. Also Have not seen them being shot.

"It is surprising how little attention smiths such as Murnier, Berg, Bremer and others have received so little attention from collectors"
It seems Pope, Schoyen slurp up all the attention. Roland is to blame!

WCF Do I have the SP number from your Berg? Photo? Looks like a nice rifle. Interesting to see some Bergs coming out. I remember seeing the advertisement but couldn't find it when I was laying out the Stevens Pope book. It would be interesting to see some well researched article on the Berg story with several rifles illustrated. Years ago I had an H. Berg Ballard.

Westerner I plan on having a chapter on Singer on the upcoming Pope-Jersey City book any help desperately needed. Also hope to have some on a totally forgotten smith, Arthur Elliott. As you say the lack of interest in Bremer, Berg etc. I attribute to Shooting & Fishing. That publication did not cover them and there wasn't anyone out there that did.

Berg was a talented smith who did quality work. He and Bremmer were the only two smiths that Pope authorized to fit Pope barrels.

Well, if there is a student of Bremer/San Francisco Schuetzen, Bob Tyler who goes by schutzenbob here is your man.
I would sure enjoy seeing more Berg rifles. A chapter dedicated to Berg with lots of pictures would be wonderful.

Tom,
The barrel # for the Stevens Pope is 725. I don't know if you have pictures or not. Denny did a write up on the rifle in the March/April 2012 issue of the Journal. I got it from him after that. If you need more detail, give me a call.

Another Berg Ballard. This one sports a Pope barrel.

Do I have the Stevens Pope number? Photos. The Stevens Pope book is basically done and I am just doing the editing now.

Dave mentioned something about that. I'll send his email to you in a PM. You'll have to ask him.
Does this tell you anything?

This one is interesting, it was made in 1918 while Pope was working in Jersey City. I have no prior report or history of this rifle. If I can get good photos of it I would like to put it in the Jersey City books. Also I would like to have data: caliber, action serial number, barrel length and weight and any history. He mentioned having brought it to the Colo. show but I don't remember seeing it. All the best Tom

Here's another Berg. It's a 38-50 and belongs to a friend. Don't know any other details right now.

Nice rifle! Again, no palm rest. I wonder why so few palm rests on Berg rifles?

Interesting observation Joe I didn't even notice it was missing a means of attachment for one to be used.

Perhaps because from what I've seen, off-hand match shooters in Germany didn't seem to use them much.
