Very few of these were made and most sent to India and South Africa. The top and bottom are muzzle loaders, the one in the center, cartridge.

These are interesting looking rifles ,but I am unfamiliar with two position rifles and would enjoy seeing some pictures of them in their respective firing positions. Thanks John Robert

The rifle was designed for Creedmoor matches and could be used either in the supine position or face forward position. In the supine position the stock was slipped over your shoulder and then you use the front trigger to fire the rifle. That position kept.your face closer to the rear sight. The front position, was fired like you see pictures of Colonel Bodine shooting in the Creedmoor matches
Tom, I'm surprised to see that those rifles were shipped to India??  I don't think they would have made a very good hunting rifle for tigers.  What do you suppose they were used for there? 

I was not aware of the Tube vid. I will check it out. One can just imagine the consternation of the very, very Brits when they saw the "outer space" design on this rifle. Therefore they shipped them out to the colonies. A lot of Gibbs Farquharsons also made the journey. One cartridge version which is hammerless is in a museum in South Africa. A little known fact is that there was a very active long range shooting group in most of the far reaches of the Empire including Hong Kong, Canada, Australia etc. Winfer's Vol 1 Alex Henry has quite a bit on the rifle. There was a very interesting sight also designed for this rifle where the elevation was done with the front sight with minor adjustments from the back. I will scan a photo of an image of the rifle being used.

That is a great video.  Lots of good visual pointers for supine shooting.

I'd love to shoot one of the two position rifles. It actually looks comfortable and quite firm and your head is supported by the cheekrest and stock comb, unlike true supine where you have to hold your head up with your left hand.

I especially liked their advice to one who begins a match with a bad shot: "Above all else, he commended an even temper. Should you make a bad shot at the commencement of a match you should never lose heart. You should rather remember that finishing well after starting badly is a very satisfactory way of winning the prize"

I also enjoyed the part where the "proper Brittish" narrator is talking about the development of the .303 cartridge while the camera is focussed on the action of a Swiss K-31.
