My single shot hunter

This is my new single shot hunter.  It is a 26" barrel in 45-70.  The rifle was built by Curt Hardcastle and he did his usual great work on the rifle.
I took it out three times this last fall but was unable to get a deer with it.  Maybe this coming fall I will have better luck.
Just had to show it off a little bit.

An extremely charming rifle that you have there.

Wow, what a beautiful stock!  If Curt built it I know it shoots lights out.  Are you using black powder and cast bullets?  I switched over to single shots for hunting years ago but in modern calibers.  About 10 years ago I switched to period calibers as well but with jacketed bullets and smokeless.  Now I have about gone to all cast bullets and sometimes smokeless and sometimes black.  I am trying to remember that the thrill is in the hunt and trying to convince myself to hunt with a paper patched bullet and black powder.  Tom

So far I have only hunted with smokeless and jacketed bullets.  I have not had time to get a black powder load worked up.  The load that we have with smokeless is very accurate.

Curt does some wonderful work. He did a trigger job on my .40-65 Roller. Now instead of 10 plus pounds, it is a very crisp 2.25 pounds! He is currently re-barreling a Miroku .22LR Low Wall for me with a BRC Choked Barrel. Should be getting it back any day now.

Great looking RB. Makes me want to hunt with mine. What scope is that? Also, who makes those sling mounts?
Thanks

The scope is an MVA B5 and the sling swivel mounts are by Dakota, normally available at Brownells. They are designed to be inletted into the stock and come with wood screws. I like to mount the front one on the barrel and fashion the 2 metal screws used to attach the front mount to the barrel.

I’m looking at scopes for hunting. How is the low light ability with the B5? What reticle are you using?

Very nice work on your rifle. Both the woodwork and metal work is very clean and crisp and it shoots very good too. Good luck next year.
Cheers
