Hello! This Stevens Favorite long rifle was recently passed down to me from my great-grandfather and I am told he acquired this around the year 1900.

Could you kindly help me identify the No. and Model of this gun?

We think it might be a No. 18 Model 1894 or No. 27 Model 1915, but are not quite sure.

Below are the details. Thank you for your help!

It is a model 1915 Favorite, and it has some very nice sights. It looks as though your great Grandfather too very good care of it.    It is especially nice that it is still in  the family.

Yes, it is model 27 1915 favorite. With the stamping J Stevens Arms Company that dates it after 1916, prior to that the the markings would be J Stevens Arms & Tool or A&T. The model 27 favorites were made up until 1939. Most of the Stevens boys rifles weren’t stamped with a true serial number, but with an assembly code number beginning with a letter, and the code possibly could be used more than once.No factory records exist.

How long is the barrel?

Might just be the angle of the photo, but looks longer than normal.

Your rifle is in very nice shape, most favorites were used and abused by boys and are in rough shape. It was most likely made after 1920 when Savage bought out Stevens.

Thanks everyone for the feedback -- very useful! To @Dellet's question, the barrel is 24 inches long.

If the action is tight and the bore at least decent, you can enjoy shooting it with standard velocity ammunition.
