418, look at the breech block it is flat on top like a 1915 favorite. Also a 418 uses a standard lever.

418, right.  I was thinking that the "1/2" meant built on the Favorite frame.  Should have checked my sources before mouthing off!

A 418-1/2 had a lighter barrel, yes?  Other differences?

I think the main difference in the 418 1/2 is that this model had less expensive sights, and was available in .25 Stevens and  .22 WRF, along with.22 LR. Possibly lighter weight barrel? I am not sure.

Perhaps intended more as an adult-sized hunting rifle as well as a junior's target rifle? Pure speculation on my part.

The only difference in the 418 and 418 1/2 is the sights and the chamberings that were offered. One tell is that there is no model marked on the gun. This is the nicest one I have ever seen. Either a well preserved original or someone did a great restoration. No sure which. I keep thinking original but I 'm not certain about the case color on the receiver. Really looks good. Too bad I really don't need another one but it is tempting.

That’s a very nice rifle, but what I find a little odd is the case hardening pattern. It has a ripple pattern like the earlier A&T Stevens, rather than the Savage Stevens pattern of the later rifles.

Yeah, the 418 photo in deHaas book shows a faded "pinto" pattern.

Well, it's almost up to $1000.  I think my interest has cooled to the solidification point.

High bidders are GB newbies.  I wonder if they know what it actually is?
