My introduction

Howdy to all! I just joined up yesterday and am still mulling over the site and how to get around. It seems complicated. I  was raised on single shot firearms. "One shot one kill" was my dad's instruction to shooting and hunting on the farm. My first weapon at age 10 was a Savage 72 Crackshot, I loved that rifle and the memories it's given me as a child hunting rabbits, squirrels and prairie chickens. I still have it and it will be my grandson's one day.
My first handgun was a Thompson Contender in .22 LR then to 30/30 then to 357 mag and .222 Rem which led me to IHMSA for a couple decades. I won state Championships in 1999 and 2001. However in my late 40's my eyesight went south and I eventually gave up competition shooting. In my 30's I bought a Ruger #1 in 6mm Rem. but sold it after a couple years. It was very accurate and I really loved the quality of that rifle but have always been a "cowboy caliber" guy so traded it in for a Browning Highwall 1885 in 45/70 Govt. That turned out to be the love of my life!  Another rifle willed to my grandson!
I scoped it to hunt deer for a few years with success then restored it to the original iron sights when I joined SASS and retired from world of firearms. I reckon now at age 70 I'm here to reminisce and hear others stories of single shot enthusiasts.

My .222 Rem in my contender was the most accurate caliber I ever shot! I could actually hit a dime at 100 yards with it.
Cool But sadly those days are gone, Sad

I was so impressed with my Crackshot at such a young age, years latter I sent Savage Arms a letter in the 90's requesting they consider producing the same simple lever single shot action in .357 mag and .45 long Colt.
They respectfully returned my request thanking me for my ideas.
Angry
To this day I still want a single shot .45 long Colt caliber in a single shot lever action.
I reckon I will have to give in if I really want one but the price is way beyond my budget!
