His system was hacked, and when I last talked with him, it sounded as if he didn't plan to get it going again. He was still working on a few new rifles but only projects of interest to him. I recall when I talked with him in April that retirement was on his mind. We discussed making one of his Ball & Williams style Ballards in a sporting configuration, but I think that will not happen. He had the nicest line up of rifles.

I hate to see Larry go… he made a lot of stuff nobody else made. When I reviewed one of his Model 1882 Maynards in 38-55, I took it to a July shoot at Beeson’s Range and everybody seemed impressed.  Even my buddy Frank Zika was complimentary about it!

I shoot one of his First Model Maynards in N-SSA competition.  It gives every advantage the rules allow, and I need all the help I can get!

Froggie unfortunately we are all getting to the point of no longer being able to do it.
Not to long back I was making several bullet moulds and modifying a few as well as re-barreling singleshot rifles for close friends. Those days for me are now gone and not because I can no longer do it. But my own personal health issues now just make it to be simply unsafe.

I contacted Larry again this week: "I'm glad you kept me in mind but I'm not making rifles any more..."

Is there a gunmaker who offered the variety of handmade rifles Larry did? I wish him a long and happy retirement.
