How do I reinstall a coil spring in High Wall ?
Oct 29th, 2021 at 5:59pm
Print Post
Disassembling anything goes much faster and smoother than assembling. I sent a breech block and hammer out to be refinished. I reinstalled the coil spring over the hammer and pinned the hammer in the breech block.

How in the heck do I get the 90-degree spring ends back into the holes ? !

Any help is appreciated …
Joe

Joe,
I'm looking for a photo of it but can't find it at the moment.  Take a smaller flat blade screwdriver, about a 1/4" wide blade, grind or file a v-notch in the middle, it works well for holding the spring as you chase the hole.

That works exactly. That's how I do it, right or wrong.

Thanks Greg!  I made a tool like yours and had the spring in with a few minutes thanks again!

There are only two considerations to this process, getting the spring oriented properly as shown in the picture, and having a tool to manipulate those ends into their holes.  As Jo Do discovered, it’s easy peasy from there.  I used to hate coil spring actions, but they do work reliably for a very long time once they’re assembled correctly.
