Morse carbine from Rifle Shoppe kit

Print Post
Bruce and I ordered a couple of the Morse carbine kits from the Rifle Shoppe quite some time ago. They did get ready this summer and I went and Pick them up. Here are some pictures of the kit . I am to finish Rifle and the ammo for it. They are two books published about the Morse carbine.
It has been a very challenging project. It was mostly hand fitting and drilling and tapping holes. Fixing a couple of mistakes and figuring how to reload for it.
They were made in South Carolina during the war between the states. As you may can tell. I was born in a part of Oklahoma called Little Dixie.
It is a 50 caliber musket cap primed with a washer to help seal and hold the primer in place. Track of the wolf makes the cartridges with the nipple inside. I took a Lee 5070 government mold and cut it down one band in one groove. But now weighs 370 grains. You can put about 40 grains of powder in. I have shot it before we had sights on it to check it for a function. I need to go out and adjust the sites two point of aim now.

The jig was the hold  the receiver so I could drill the holes perpendicular there was nothing on the outside of the action that was necessarily true. So by clamping to the inside Mortice It worked out well.

Well done Rodney.  A beautiful piece made more handsome because of its oddity. Thanks for sharing

We think alike. I like all single shots but especially the odd and clever ones.

The two books on the Morse Carbine are:
"The Best Gun In the World" by Robert Siegler
And
"The Confederate Morse Carbine" by Peter Schiffers

I've got the first one and really like it.  Don't know about the other.
