Relineing a German Schuetzen
Sep 26th, 2021 at 1:10am
Print Post
Can a 8.15x46r be relined to 22 lr, if so how. Most 22 liners are 5/16 or 3/8 OD. I have a Schuetzen with a poor bore. It fits so nice I would like to make it into a 22 lr and keep the original barrel. I was wondering if a smith could drill out the chamber, fit a steel plug then drill for a 22 liner. What do you think?
Thanks Mike

You can fit a turned down stepped barrel blank to most barrels, a bit fiddly to turn down the non chamber part, as it is thin, but can be done. The stepped blank is then glued or soldered into the original barrel and the muzzle and chamber ends cleaned up and the new chamber cut

T.J's makes a 22 rim fire liner in 1/2" diameter. I used one to line a 44 caliber barrel to 22 rim fire.

Look at the important topics section at the top of this gunsmithing section.  A price list is there with contact info.

Recommendations for a gun smith to install a 1/2 TJs liner & alter the extractor. This old schuetzen was made when .250 berdan primers were used. The firing pin strikes several thousands low, no wear in the locking lugs (Stahl Martini), so a few thousands off the lugs to lower the block should bring the firing pin in line to fire a 22 rimfire.
