Hey Folks,
I hope you are well! Figured I'd share a preview of an article I'm working on for The Journal. I'm planning on flushing out how to get into our sport with currently produced equipment.
I had my initial outing with the CPA today and I am so far quite impressed. My hats off to Gail and company
Below are some pics of the rifle along with some five shot groups fired this morning at 100 yards. The group with SK Standard Plus is the first group ever fired from the rifle! The optics are a Montana Vintage Arms 10x scope.

My Douglas barrel CPA really likes Eley black box match.its the most accurate. 22lr I've ever owned.I've owned (or do own) Anschutz 54s,Anschutz 2013,Ballards ,Remington 37s,Remington 40x and various Martini International riffles so i have a very good stable to compare.Wind and variations of lots of 22 ammo drive me crazy though.
Nice rifle.

Thanks Guys
No through bolt on this one. The barrel is the standard Douglas barrel that CPA uses. Looking forward to wringing this out some more and sharing results!

One of the reasons for experimenting with breach seating 22lr. Another is to keep from having to pay through the nose for ammo one has no control over. Close to $.50 a round for the best, and may still not shoot all that well in your particular rifle. And as cbashooter noted, you might spend a minor fortune searching for the best lot, and still no guarantees to cover the unexplainable flier. Exasperating at best!!!! The saving grace, is that they(22's) are fun to shoot, as long as you aren't shooting for the moon.

If you have not tried SK Long Range Match I suggest trying it. It is quite impressive in a rifle I tried it in.

I have a 3 cavity Brooks mold for the heeled 22 bullet.ive breech seated in my #1 .223 with ok luck.with a little 22 lr case and breech seat I'd think holding powder in case when getting it in the chamber would be a pain.Really thin wad? I almost ordered RCC small primer cases to see how it was.
I bought 3 cases of the same lot of the eley match from Killough .it was painfully hard to do. ( it's way more fun to buy a rifle or a bullet mold)And as you said my other 2 schuetzen rifles don't like it nearly as much so it's a one rifle only investment so far.

M1-shooter I have some on back order/will notify status, and will give them a shot(or more) if and when they arrive. Thanks for the suggestion.

CBashooter- I have not gone down that rabbit hole yet. A close friend and I were going to experiment with it in a Stevens or Ballard with heeled bullets and leaving the breech seating to the breech block. Unfortunately my friend is gone, and unlikely that I will pursue it at this point in time. I do believe it has merit, as do others. I would think that a lot of information could be found on the cast bullet websites. Too many ideas, and not near enough time!!!

Scott, in all my .22 match rifles SK standard plus outshoots all other match ammo that I have tried, including the other SK venue's.. Another good thing about it is that it is cheap comparatively.

watchthewind,
That CPA is a fantastic looking rifle and quite a shooter.
Of course, the groups shown prove the operator has good skill also!
Thanks for posting.

I have a #6 Barrel on my CPA and it really seems to like slow speed center x. I am guessing it is all in how it was chambered.

The Barrel on the CPA that I once owned and sold to a friend. Was a Shilen with a match chamber and the accuracy was absolutely outstanding and allot better than I could actually take full advantage of at the time. It actually liked the Federal Match 700B Match the most and all of it went with rifle and the new owner did extremely well.
