Remington Rolling Block 50 caliber rimfire?

I cannot find a a chamber or cartridge drawing for the Remington 50 rimfire caliber rolling block rifle. If the block were changed to CF would the chamber dimensions align with the 50-70 Govt?

If your rifle is not in 7.62 and you can't hit what you are aiming at with de-linked machinegun ammo you are a pretender.

At one time I had some rimfire cartridges but sold them long ago.  Cartridges of the world 9th edition which I have lists the dimensions for both and they are very similar.  Looks like they interchange but be careful on the length of your chamber the center fire is a little longer but if need be you could trim a little off the case.  Best way is do a chamber cast and compare to new 50-70 chamber to be sure.  By the way got $50 each for the rimfire cartridges when I sold them.

There were a couple 50 cal. rimfire cartridges. The Nave and Army pistol and the cadet rifle used a very small rimfire cartridge with about 25 grains of powder.
Best to pore a chamber cast to see what you have.

Be careful when you do your chamber cast, if it run into the extractor area it is very hard to get out.

Could it be chambered for .56-50? That's what my Remington split breech is. Its a great shooter with a 350gr bullet.

56-50? I don/t know. I found two carbines for sale, not cheap but in excellent condition.

I recently moved and almost all of my books are in boxes. Can/t find one that is driving me crazy, replacement is $110.

John,

Only the first issue of the navy rolling block pistols were rimfire.  Most were soon converted to centerfire.   The "cadet" was made from the navy pistols are as far as I know all were center fire.  The army pistol was center fire from the get-go.   There is a slight difference between the navy and army CF cartridges.   If I remember right the navy will chamber in the army, but not the other way around.   The Army pistol is really fun to shoot using Lyman 515139 bullet and 22 grains of FFFg.   The "Cadet," based on the Navy pistol,  can be fired, but probably was never intended to be fired.   There is no recoil lug on the barrel and the forearm will "walk" with the recoil.  I found that out when I chronographed the Cadet rifle I had.

It appears that not all books have the same information. The only pistol I had was a rimfire so I can only go by what someone ells says.

The original Navy pistol that is still rf is a much more rare item than the cf production.
Remington and/or more specifically Marcus Hartley  (while owner of Remington) made several small lot contracts of .50 caliber rim fire carbines for local groups and small government agencies in Mexico. Many of these sales were delivered to Texas gun shops on the US side of the border.  One carbine lot even has a convertible block to allow the use of both cf and rf cartridges. The latter carbines are seldom seen and typically in rather poor condition. It can be a bit of a surprise to open the breech on a BPC carbine and discover it is a rim fire.

Here is an example of one of the 50 rf carbines.
Early receiver pre 1874 manufacture.
