5.7 (22) Johnson or spitfire

Found a Barrel in 5.7 spitfire and wondered if the chamber would clean up with a 218 bee reamer. Looks close, probably have to set the barrel back a couple of threads.

Anyone have experience with this cartridge in a single shot? (Ruger #3)

ETA just realized setting the barrel back would mess up the scope mount holes.

There is a good chance that most of it will clean up but the shoulder area most likely will not. The Johnson has a short neck and sharp shoulder and the bee has a longer tapered shoulder. Not sure if an Improved Bee would clean up or not. A chamber cast or even better a pair, one of each, would give you the best idea. \
The barrel could be set back and if done right the holes for the scope mounts can be brought back up to top dead center, not a lot different than putting on an octagon barrel.

The barrel will have to be indexed for the extractor slot to match so the scope mount holes will be correct.

The rear base fits against the top receiver ring. Guess I could mill a step in the base. More than a full turn you would be getting close to the rear most scope base threaded hole in the barrel.

The 30 carbine has a slightly larger base diameter and generally thicker brass than the 32-20/25-20. So it would run into trouble at both ends. Loose and well oversized neck.

Probably easiest to form some cases from either a regular or Mashburn Bee die and fire form.

I think based on what you said about the scope holes, you would have to set the barrel back too far to clean up the neck.
